Clinical Psychology The Clinical Psychology course has been authorized a Class One Designated Graduate School by the Foundation of the Japanese Certification Board for Clinical Psychologists. The aim of this course is to pursue two major educational purposes: developing researchers in the area of clinical psychology and training highly advanced specialists who can accommodate psychological problems and provide the needed support to address those problems via the expertise and skills acquired through their studies. The curricula are designed to prepare students to pass the Clinical Psychologist examination. Mandatory subjects cover various psychotherapies and the knowledge and skills required to conduct clinical psychology assessments. These are coupled with a wide range of practical exercises both in and out of school. Life-Span Developmental/Educational Psychology The aims of this course’s curricula are threefold: 1) to prepare students to acquire the qualifications needed to be clinical developmental and school psychologists via acquisition of advanced knowledge of the subject; 2) to ensure that graduates can actively work as trained professionals in society; and 3) to develop highly educated individuals and researchers with expertise in the area of developmental and educational psychology, with the aim of supporting a knowledge-based society. Therefore, the curricula include modules that help students prepare for examinations to gain the qualifications of School Psychologist and Clinical Developmental Psychologist. The practical experience required for such qualifications is also provided in the form of class-based exercises in partnership with off-campus institutions. The course simultaneously covers those subjects essential for acquiring the professional knowledge and practical skills needed to be an expert in educational and developmental psychology. Social/Environmental/Criminal Psychology The curricula for these courses are designed to develop highly educated individuals who are both equipped with advanced knowledge in the field of psychology and capable of supporting a knowledge-based society. Another objective is the training of researchers in this field. Accordingly, the course will enable students to apply their expertise in psychology to various aspects of life in the real world and thus contribute to the creation of environments that support spiritually rich lifestyles through ongoing assistance.
